Getting Started
After installing from the Marketplace, open any Google Doc, go to
Extensions → Novel Editor, and click ‘Open Sidebar’. Your writing toolkit is ready.

How do I navigate between chapters?
Use the sidebar's chapter list. Click any chapter to jump directly to it. Each chapter shows its word count.
How do I format my manuscript?
Click "Apply Manuscript Format" in the sidebar. Your document gets standard formatting: double-spaced, 12pt font, proper margins.
Can I track my word count?
Yes! The sidebar shows your total word count and per-chapter counts. Track your progress as you write.
How do I export my manuscript?
Use the Export button in the sidebar. Choose PDF format. The file saves directly to your Google Drive.
Is my manuscript private?
Absolutely. Your content never leaves Google's servers. We don't see your work, ever.
Does it work offline?
Novel Editor requires an internet connection. Google Docs' offline mode may allow limited functionality.
Is it really free?
Yes. Novel Editor is completely free to use. No hidden fees, no premium tiers.
What is the Character List?
A place to keep track of your characters. Add names and descriptions so you never forget who's who in your story.
What is the Pomodoro Timer?
A built-in focus timer. Write in 25-minute sessions with short breaks. Stay productive without burning out.
Can I collaborate with others?
